We're nearing the end of the school holidays, however there is still a WEEK to go! Here are my Top 5 to get through to the end with more WINS and less WHINGE!
5️⃣ Play-dates
A change of dynamic, even if it’s a friend coming over to us for a few hours, lifts our brain into its upstairs level 💚 (swipe across!). On the flip side, if he can go to someone’s house it allows me to pour some extra energy into myself and his sibling ♥️
4️⃣ Good food & hydration💧
Please don’t eye roll me, I give in to crap like the best of them🍦 , however I know for a fact that good, fresh food (avoiding artificial colours & preservatives!) and loads of water supports our brain to function at its best! A lot of kids & adults with ADHD have a tendency to forget to drink and often get dehydrated! #truestory 👍🏼
3️⃣ Screen time balanced by movement! 🏃♂️
I believe screen time has its place! For many children it’s a way to regulate and have down time from a busy life, however for our son, the time he spends on screen needs to be balanced equally with some kind of body movement, to keep body and brain happy! 😊🧠 Too much stagnant stimulation will always lead to him being in a dysregulated state of mind 🤯
2️⃣ Sleep 😴
A change of routine from school to holidays often means earlier and earlier rising times for us 🙈. While it’s lovely to be more flexible with bedtime in the holi’s, super early rising and busy days also means that fatigue sets in and for my kids fatigue = insane hyperactivity that is challenging to soften 🤪. It is 100% true that sleep promotes sleep, so getting them to bed earlier on those early riding days is worth putting our energy into 🙏🏻😴
1️⃣ Leaning in 🥰
Leaning in to my faith, my family, and dearest friends to keep us all supported and uplifted is one of the most important things. We all need space from each others energy from time to time! Even the smallest pockets of space allows us to recharge and reset. It’s not always easy for me to ask for help, but it really is one of life’s greatest necessities in managing my mental health when the load is ‘extra’.
I love learning from my beautiful audience here. Can you tell me some of yours? Just hit "reply"!
With love,
